KIDS WITH CURLY HAIR: Embracing it & Loving it

Posted by on

As parents, we all want our children to feel confident and proud of who they are. And for those with curly hair, that can be a challenging task. Society has often portrayed straight hair as the standard of beauty, and as a result, many children with curly hair may feel self-conscious or ashamed of their natural locks.

But it's crucial to teach our children that their curly hair is beautiful and unique. We can start by leading by example and embracing our own natural curls. Show them that curly hair is not something to be ashamed of or hide, but something to be celebrated. It's why I embraced mine.

We can also educate them about the different types of curls and the different ways to take care of them.  Using curl safe products, teach them how to properly wash, condition, and style their hair, and give them the tools they need to take care of their curls.

Encourage them to express themselves and embrace their individuality. Give them dolls, books, and movies that feature characters with curly hair, and point out famous people with curls, like Solange Knowles, Yara Shahidi, and SZA, who are all proud of their natural curls and embracing them.

Finally, let them know that it's okay to have bad hair days, but it's essential to learn how to take care of their curls and to love them the way they are.

At the end of the day, teaching our little ones to embrace their natural curls is about building self-confidence, self-love and self-acceptance. It's about showing them that their curls are beautiful, unique and that they are enough.
